Cast Pharmaceutical Starch, 316L Surgical Steel, 4 channel Sound

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge that separates Iceland is a central character. On one side, the American tectonic plate. On the other, the European plate. The American plate is pulling away from its counterpart at a annual rate of ±17mm. The work follows the slow separation of the plates over the next 80.3 years to draw and quarter a human figure. The ropes are cast of pharmaceutical-grade starch with surgical steel pitons. The Icelandic Polyphonic choir are recorded singing 'freeze' and 'thaw', and playback for 80.3 years based on daylight-darkness tables for Iceland.
